I added about 1/2 of the substrate media from Tannin Aquatics and some crushed oak leaves to this tank. I didn't want to add all of it at once as wasn't sure if it would shock the fish.
But,with the half I did add, appears to be a nice tint going on.

That 180 gallon Nature aquarium looks great. I've become a believer of using tanins with South American Cichlids. The benefits from using the tanins are real. If only I knew this years sooner lol.

Here is some information on tank:
Fish:
10 phenocogrammus aurentius
8 hemigrammuspetersius pulcher
9 alestopetersius cf. nigropetersius
2 alestopetrsius brichardi (will be adding more when find more)
16 hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis "Orange"
9 corydoras eques
8 brochis splendens
2 hypoptopoma gulare
3 geophagus sveni
3 geophagus neambi
4 mikrogeophagus altispinosus
8 biotodoma cupido/wavarini

Plants:
Anubias (many species--Ill add later)
Java ferns (many species--Ill add later)
Ludwigia grandiflora
Valisneria spiralis "Leopard"
Limnophila sessiliflora
Nymphae sp.
Echinodorus bleheri

I was inspired by Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 tanks. But, if I wanted it to be more natural I would not have so many different plants.I have become quite the plant collector :(. I need more tanks for all my plants.
Still thinking what I want to do with the background.I may just put black on back of the window film and see how that looks.

Is that a Amazon Sword in the background?

The black will work . I have started to collect a few plants myself lol. Picked up 2 Amazon Swords today.

It is a sword-- took it a long time to get growing.I always thought swords grew really fast- this one sure didn't.

Almost lost the Amazon Sword but it came back after placing a Fluval root tab near the roots. I have a variety of Anubias I like them because they are tough and don't demand a lot of light.

Tank looks beautiful Amy.

I think the substrate looks very good, it's certainly added that natural touch.
I agree with Mr lindsey, the benifits of adding tannins are definitely real. It always brings out the best in my South Americans and often triggers a spawn.

If I have inspired you, that's very flattering to hear.
I think a black background would look great. It will also give your tank more feeling of depth.
