180 Gallon Set Up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Now i have tried sand before but it was a problem for my filters, it was the tank in the picture. I think the sand grains were to small. And suggestions on sand that will not destroy my filters?

I use Black diamond sand blasting sand, looks good, isnt too light or heavy.

Just requires good cleaning.

I actually have about 30-40lbs of it left over, if your interested, just send me a PM, you can have it if you would like, your only about 45 minutes from me.

Its cheap enough to buy at tractor supply though if thats closer, $5-$8 per 50 lbs.

What about lighting? I have 5 amazons that I was thinking about putting in there. The oscars don't seem to bother them in the tank that they are in at the moment. The tank came with dual 72" HOVs. I have some spare 36" t8s, 36" t12s, 36" t5s and some 48" t5s. I don't want to over light it and yet I don't want to over power it. Any suggestions?

I just set up a 180 & it is doing very well with a 50 gallon sump for my mechanical filtration & a Eheim Pro 3 2080 for biological. I also got 2 40W UV lights I will be hooking up in a couple of months after the bacteria in the tank grows a while. Enjoy your tank- I have some bigger tanks than the 180 but that is a great tank size!

OK Guys, here is an update. I have painted the back of my tank with black acrylic paint and i just finished my stand (85%) I just have to add some more trim and some shelves. I have purchased a FX5 filter from a new friend of mine on MFK. I will be purchasing another one soon. I have purchased some black blasting sand (heard that works good). I want to do an Amazon themed tanks to I have to get some driftwood. Im going to get a few plants not to many. I also purchased a circulation pump. (decided to get it after reading a few threads). My current stock list is a 13in Red Tail Catfish , 12in Florida and a 6.5 Peacock Bass. Any suggestion on any more fish?20130724_191342 - Copy.jpg20130724_191342 - Copy.jpg20130724_191354 - Copy.jpg20130724_191400 - Copy.jpg20130724_191409 - Copy.jpg20130724_214420.jpg20130726_225234.jpg20130726_225238.jpg20130726_225244.jpg20130727_041608.jpg
