180 Stand vs. 220 Stand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
most aquariums with the same footprints can go on the same stand. It's why they advertise 75 or 90 gallon stand and stuff like that. It's fine

Is the stand metal or wood? My question has nothing to do with the capability to hold weight but is a attractiveness question. I had a 180 once with a metal stand and it needed to be upstairs for the first year. Not attractive in the living room. I got some thin wood panels, put magnets on the back of the panels and stuck the panels to the front and sides of the stand. It looked better than the metal.

Thank you for all of your replies. The stand is wood, pine, and the tag in the picture I received says it's an OAK 24x72 Pine Stand, #53192.

Well, I think I answered my own question. Right after I made my last post it occurred to me to look up the part number and it looks like it is made by Aqueon and is rated for their 180 and 210 gallon tanks. I am sure it will hold a 220 gallon tank just fine.

220g is made by marineland. Sits on 180g stands with no issues at all. I actually made the switch from 180 to 220g onsame diy stand

It is a used tank so I doubt that the factory will give any kind of warranty on it. If I am uncomfortable with how sturdy it feels then I will add some additional supports.
