hello all its been a while I posted since last year I have few fish that passed away one that was with me for 10yrs. Anyhow I’m moving forward and looking to take down a 120 that house my turtle and move all my current stock of 180 to my 330. Enough said I want a setup my 180 to a sump filtration n I have few options on sump size. Either one 75 gal OR link 2 x 40 gal Breeder together for sump. What you think. J jaws7777

I definitely think a single 75 is the way to go. Two 40’s is a lot of extra drilling and plumbing for only 5 extra gallons.

Thanks for the suggestion. It’s not gal I’m worried about. It’s the height of the 75 so I thought why not attach the 40 gal breeders together for sump. But now I think about it. 2 x 40 Breeder wouldn’t fit under the 180 stand. So I’m limited to 75 and am thinking of trying out the herbie style system which I hear are nice n quite compare to my current durso setup. Right J jaws7777 ???

Hey buddy sorry about your loss man that was a tough one.

Well if the 2x40 breeders arent gonna fit then thats that lol.

So your gonna drill the 180 ? I love my herbie man. I would also love to give bean animal a try one day. I think that is even more flood proof than herbie. But as long as you size everything to you E drains the herbie is pretty rock solid.

How many overflows you going with ?

Yeah it’s always a tough to let go especially when u have so much effort into it. Ahh.
Well to be honest I can do what I wish to this 180 in drilling holes since I have time just don’t know. How to setup a herbie system. I got the DC pump originally for my 330 but later figured that I can’t use that pump so it’s for the 180 which is perfect for it. I don’t care how many holes for this 180 either back or bottom.

not sure what type of stand your working with but an idea for you might be to put your stand on blocks to raise up so you can gain some height for the 75 gal underneath. I think that linking the two breeders would be more trouble than its worth trying to balance the levels.

Just my two cents though!

Well it’s sitting on the marine land wood stand so I have 7” of head height for the 75 sump. The pvc will only end @ about 6” before the top edge of my stand than flex into the sump. I should be good.

Herbie isnt hard at all man. Someone on here did a beananimal herbie hybrid basically a siphon drain, a secondary drain that was taking on a slight trickle then a completely dry e drain....probably overkill lol just thinking out loud

One overflow will give you more room in the tank but two would allow for more surface skimming. Maybe a coast to coast overflow would work better and give you the best of both worlds

Yeah love the idea. Just you tube the coast to coast pvc version but I still hear his trickle. LoL. I like it like my eheims that’s what currently running. 2 x 2262s. Gotta you tube more of these 2 systems. Drilling holes don’t scare me. On the side or bottom I can do it. Sump design I think I’m limited to the space available on this 75. Don’t want to change the 6” diameter 16” long filter sock so there goes some space taken out. Definitely going with seachem matrix and one narrow baffle will also do like crush coral part.

To save space you can just go with the bio ontop of your pumps and no baffle along with the socks.

DN328 DN328 runs a peninsula type tank. Im thinking his overflow would be something similar to coast to coast....maybe lol

2262 are great but that 85w isnt lol these dc pumps are much better in terms of power consumption.

Theres a bean animal thread in here too check it out.

I like the dual herbies because its the 1st method i was able to understand but you know theres lots of ways to skin a cat
