180 sump filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Herbie isnt hard at all man. Someone on here did a beananimal herbie hybrid basically a siphon drain, a secondary drain that was taking on a slight trickle then a completely dry e drain....probably overkill lol just thinking out loud

Um, this would be me (but there maybe others) ;-) I'm OK with "overkill" if it means something extra to support the trickle.

To save space you can just go with the bio ontop of your pumps and no baffle along with the socks.

DN328 DN328 runs a peninsula type tank. Im thinking his overflow would be something similar to coast to coast....maybe lol

2262 are great but that 85w isnt lol these dc pumps are much better in terms of power consumption.

Theres a bean animal thread in here too check it out.

I like the dual herbies because its the 1st method i was able to understand but you know theres lots of ways to skin a cat

My understanding of a coast to coast is the wier/trough that runs the LENGTH of a given tank. Usually it leads to at least one overflow box at one end, but usually an overflow box at each end. It could also have one overflow in the center. For example...

Mine is an internal overflow at one end of the tank and not a coast to coast.

I thought its me :)

Then it makes the two of us with a dry e-drain on a Herbie.

My e drain ia dry as well
I wasnt referring to you guys. I cant remember who it was but he didnt use the elbows, airline tubing, and the holes werent drilled in the back of the tank. He basically had 3 stand pipes instead of two.

DN328 DN328 sorry for the tag i though yours was similar to the coast to coast.

Well I’m not that into coast to coast since it takes up lots of property on the surface of the tank. But it’s for my turtle so it’s hard to lose that property on surface and in case future I can still have that space up top. So currently, I’m thinking of 2 x 1.5” bulkhead and an 1 e drain. The 2 x 1.5” will have 2 x 90 degrees inside the tank facing upward and than outside the bulkhead will have another 90 facing down to the sump or I need a Tee for air and plump the end up pass surface of my water level where my 90 inside the tank sits?

I dont know if im following but the two 1.5 drains are going to both be siphons ?

If so that 1 e drains wont be able to handle the flow. Infact it might not be able.to handle the flow of one siphon.

Thought 2 x 1.5” drains are enough for my 180. My current 330 are using 2 x 1.5 durso draining pipes and it’s pump is a pond pumping @1700-1800 gph. So not sure 180 need that much more draining pipe (bulkhead)..

No worries about the tag. I do have 3 standpipes...full siphon, second barely trickle and third dry.WP_20160102_005.jpg
