$1800 FH?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The reason that fish is so much is probably because of the kok, (the hump in its head.) Alot goes into judging values on flowerhorns. I'm not into them much, but I bet the price is due to the hump on its head, along with pearls, fin lenghts, exc exc... I saw a flowerhorn with an even bigger hump for $3000 on aquabid about a month ago and it still had a day left! hahaha

 for the cost of that fish i would rather buy a new tank and put a few MP frys in it to grow out.. dont get me wrong i really like the fish but the cost would keep me away. plus the enjoyment to see a fish grow to an adult for us is a very good feeling.

i'm pretty sure that kok is a result of saline injections

I know someone that has fish like that, and has had ones in the past with huge kok like that, and his where natural. You can't just assume it's altered because you have never seen anything like that before. Ask around about a fish called legolas and you might find out that its more than possable for a fish to get a huge kok like that on its own.

I would love for you to post some examples of fish like this being sold for that price. Thats just ridiculous IMO.

i think people are kinda' getting mixed up with the question? :) what we're hearing from others is what they can afford as opposed to what the fish is worth. :D

i just went on Aquabid and i saw how fish can go up to 3K. very nice ones. if you get a pair of high class FHs you can probably get your money back from the babies and make even more profit huh? :naughty:

Yeah the kok is probably 100% real. As far as breeding to make your money back. Even with nice FH's it's hard. Alot of hard work. Alot of food. Alot equipment needed if you want to raise a large spawn. And then the shipping expenses of boxes/heat packs/o2 if you want to be able to ship that spawn.

thats the thing, the climate in Indo, Thailand, and cost of land makes it so it's much cheaper to raise the fry. A lot of farms raise them in big indoor and outdoor ponds. It's cost effective for them. If we have to do it here and have a ton of tanks to heat, and filter, it's way more expensive. Plus what the bro above pointed out also. Thats the main reason there are no "premier" breeders in USA. The USA bred quality is getting better in some instances, but very rare.
