any idea's people??? is a 55g sump big enouph ???

Yes a 55 sump is big enough. The question is: do you have enough drainage capacity? Ya gota get the water into the sump. I can't tell how large your drilled holes are? The bigger the better for drain lines. For example one 2" line drains more than two 1" lines. It has to do with the friction/surface area of the plumbing.
Set up both your drilled holes as drains to your sump and pump the return to a spray bar over the tank. You want to keep your return line out of the water so you wont siphon back to your sump when you have a power outage. Or you can set up some kind of check valve or siphon break but these can fail.

Keep asking questions, we will get you sorted out in no time :)

if he uses the top hole as the inlet it shoudln't be a problem unless his sump is too small gallons wise. that will of course depend on hof far down the bottom of that hole is from the top of the water line and the tank dimentions.

then once the power returns the pump will start working and the drain will resume again. simple really.

so if you're talking a 6x2x2 180 gallon and the bottom of the top drain is 6" from the top of the tank you would need a 44 gallon additional drainage. if you're sump is already half full you're talking a 90 gallon need. now if you keep the water level 2" from the top you'd only need a 60 gallon tank.

and again a 2" from the top water level with the bottom of that drain being 5" from the top would give you 22 gallon drainage with meaning a 45 gallon tank is needed.

so I say do some measuring, you may have a built in overflow system already.
