I don't see a problem as long as your next to a load bearing wall. How many people have piano's or large screen tv's with huge stereo cabnits and never think twice about where they go. A house is built with these things in mind. You MAY find the directions of the joist by a stud finder, but don't quote me on that. Anyone else think a stud finder might work?

You should still have a main beam for your second floor. If you can find it, you can also look in your tub/shower access panel. You can usually see which way the joists are running there.

Stud finder won't necessarily tell you which way the joists are running. Good idea for finding a starting point though.

I agree.

my room does already have a plasma and basically small home theater system duno if that matters...do you think the joists would run parallel with the tub? i just have no clue what im looking for, i appreciate all the help though
