180g DIY LED Lighting

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice! 48 leds over a 180 should provide plenty of light for a fish only tank and maybe enough PAR for some "low light" plants.

I would enjoy trying out some plants... but no amount of light or CO2 would allow me to grow plants. I tried my luck with some Amazon Swords. I planted them, turned around to walk to my chair a few feet away, and they had already been yanked out and chewed on!

I received my order from RapidLED today, still waiting on the heatsinks though. Unfortunately they forgot one of the items I ordered but are sending it out to me now with expedited shipping.

UPDATE:

I received the heatsinks last night after work. I finished adhering the LEDs in the pattern I wanted to the heatsink (that's why they don't line up properly). Here are a couple pics. I'll do a little bit of preparation with the drivers/controller tonight/tomorrow, and maybe start building a wooden frame to suspend the heatsinks with from the ceiling.

I built the frame that will hold the heatsinks in place, and have the controller, and drivers screwed to the back side. This will be hung directly above my tank. I'm still waiting for a few items to arrive before I can go any further. The wait might kill me lol.

Waiting Sucks! LOL

Damn Spencer, I thought that I was splurging if I picked up one of the new Aqueon LED fixtures. lol

I can't wait to see the final result of this DIY LED.

:) I can't wait to get it finished either. If only shipping didn't take 10+ business days.
