If you truly don't see a degrade with flow, then you can keep as is if that works for you as long as it doesn't make you worse off. Again, considering the information you've posted the sump alone is sufficient.

BTW, I like your clean PVC plumbing, I can appreciate and have a preference for that look :-)

Thanks DN, it was my first time plumbing using PVC and first time I ever had a sump. I learned a lot w this project. Spent a lot of hours of designing for maximizing efficiency. Getting the UV threw out my original design. I didn't think it would be that gigantic but it must be at least 4 feet long and gurthy.

Too be honest I don't have much experience with external pumps but it's okay. I was planning on getting the Japanese ones but the guy who drilled my sump said it was new and amazing. He spoke highly of it but when I got it set up I was less impressed maybe cause he talked it up so much. Well I got the M1 I think I should have gotten the L1.

Amazing work! I applaud your work. I would personally not do the overflow filtration due to the fact if it gets clogged it will overflow back into the tank and raise your level and that's a big no no. I thought about that as well but didn't want to risk anything,

My bro-in-law uses the L1 (I think that has the greater GPH?). The benefits of the pump is that you can create a pulsing - which is favored in reefer tanks. I like DC pumps to begin with and that one is quiet even used externally. BTW, I believe that pump can be used both submerged AND external.

Why do say you should have gotten the L1 - are you having flow issues?

I'm running the M1 at 100%. I have 2x return. One is traveling about 5ft back into the tank and the other is going thru a UV system. I'm okay with the low rate on the UV system cause I'm dialing that one down, but the other should be a rocket of water I feel. It's good but I don't like running the pump at 100%. I'm thinking it won't last long compared to the Japanese models. But I'll find out if and when I have to replace it.

Thanks! Stocked currently with 9x Gold Jardini. I got the Maxspect in response to the disappointment of the flow of the M1.

Nice job on the 180, like the others, I don't know that the internal bio tower would be what I would have done, but to each his own.

So, whats the long term plan for the Jardinis? You got a massive tank in the works as well?
