Does anyone know if a 180 gallon with a metal stand can be keep on a second floor with no problem?

My floors are wooden but thats under like layers of linoleum, hahahaha.
I wouild like to put the tank in my bed room against a wall that divids my room and the living room wood that work. I have been planning on getting a 180 and now I have made my mind up and will be getting one in the month of August or September.

had a 220 and a 110 both on the same floor across from each other for 3 yrs straight until now I have the 400gallon in the garage at my new place just do it

The best placement of your tank is perpendicular to the floor joists. I would not place a 180g parallel to the floor joist, bad things may happen.

LOL It will be fine, you have linoleum

Honestly it will be fine. Keep it as close to the wall as possible just for your own sanity but who would put a tank in the middle of the room anyway :)

Ya, no worries it's only a couple thousand pounds.

pop a hole in the ceiling on the first floor and check it out, refinishing a small hole in the drywall is pretty easy compared to having to fix the problems a tank falling would cause

LOL..Joel your house is just like mine.. its close to 100 yrs old.. and built like a tank.. the floor joist are running horizontal in your room.. you have to put it either by were you have your tank now or by your door.. NOT were you have your 10 gallon tank at..

consider this article from cichlid formum, written by an engineer:

I would be careful in how you set it up. 2000 pounds in one relatively small area can do damage over time to flooring if not properly reinforced.

from what I have read on this forum, many people who put large tanks (over 125g) on second floors add additional floor joists to beef up the floor before they set up the tank..
