180gallon today...HELP

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
damn that sucks. so moral of the story is 1 foot deep then? lol
Shoot for 1".......

A foot of water out of a 180 is alot of water going back into the sump. Easiest way to make sure your good once you're up and running is to drill a small hole in your return(s) about 1/2-1" below the water line. That way, if or when you cut the power these "siphon breaks" will do just that..... Break any back siphoning into the sump.

I put swing check valves on my returns as well. It's a little overkill, but I've never had a flood in all my years of fishkeeping from backsiphoning.

Good luck and post some pics when you can!

where did ya get the free 180g?

I used hot water with simple green on my 150 that I got that was covered in algae and salt and it cleaned it up like nothing

@shua71 thanks i will make sure that i do that. i could just see the look on her face if she came home to 100 gallons of water on the floor. safe to say id be sleeping on the couch.
@greg31 this is a long story so i hope you enjoy. i was at a party and at some point my fish and fish tank got brought up and a women who had just recently cheated/divorced her husband got his TANK in the divorce. unreal i understand. she dosent even want the thing and said that if i come and take it out of the house its mine. has everything for the salt im just a cichla guy though. so long story short 1 mans unfortunate and very sad ****ty situation turned out to be a great one for me and my fish.

This is a picture of the tank and the front of the light. My concern is that it has been sitting for 2 years. The silicone looks good on it.
