Considering this is /\/\onsterfishkeepers, I believe it is safe to assume that plants will not be able to absorb the massive bioload of your tank. An Aquariacentral.com tank might be able to - under minimalistic conditions.
you can do it and ive heard about it but like harley K said the type of fish that most keep here it wont be possible.
the stocking hardly seems worth it to me, i heard something like 1 neon/guppy sized fish per 10 gallons of water. how accurate this number is i dont know but i cant imagine it being that far of the truth of what would be needed to achieve the perfect mini eco system. look at practical fishkeeping i think they have an article on a guy that done it or google it.
