19 kids and counting

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Okay, I am not going to defend Michelle Duggar because she and her husband are exploiting their children through these shows. However, having a big family is not always a bad thing. Here I am, a mother of thirteen (8 biological, 5 adopted) who keeps an aquarium as a nice, relaxing hobby, getting on Monster Fishkeepers hoping to read about, well, fish. It is a little hard not to be offended when people call those with big families ugly names. We are not and never have accepted government handouts or charity of any kind, despite expensive adoption costs. I worked hard a a nurse before having a large family. Some of us are responsible parents and just happen to like aquariums, too.

Theres a differnce between "19 kids and counting" and you, there doing it for the fame(ect..) and there getting paid to have there life documented on TV, but you made the choice to have the kids and adopt some, and your getting by fine i persume, considering you have aquariums. I envy you for being able to raise your children in a proper lifestyle.

where were you called names? the only post that i thought could be considered an insult the poster did mention if you have the money for it and adopt, it's fine.....the only thing anyone complained about was people being given money for having large families.

I don't understand why you seem to be offended? You didn't purposely birth 13 children. You aren't exploiting your children, and you aren't asking for hand outs. No one is saying mean or nasty things about the families either.

They have the option to say no to a tv show.. the duggars saw this as a way to make what they are doing ok, and so they continued to drop out more babies. They were so obsessed with having this show, and publicity, they had another child when they were told NOT too. They now have a special needs child because they refused to listen- they put this child in jeopardy just to get more publicity. They should have stopped with children so that Josie (the youngest) didn't have to be born and live the life she needs to live.

No, I am not bashing on special needs children what so ever; but she KNEW the risks, and she didn't for one second think about how the child would have to live life.

That is sad when it could be prevented. I am also not bashing anyone special needs. With the world being overpopulated and the "rat race" being the way it is, it is hard enough just being normal.
With so many other children, I bet this special needs child is being more compromised. This child's future is probably going to be bleak.

A lot if you are a primitive person who breeds like some other less intelligent species. Then you produce a lot more children then the educated, civilized person.
If you behave like an intact house-cat or domesticated dog who is unable to handle family planning, you need to be treated in the same manner. These people need to be spayed and neutered due to their inability to handle birth control like normal, civilized people.

There is an option for people who want large families, it's called adoption. Have a good home and extra income for another child?...adopt one in need. There is no need to be irresponsible and add to the world's overpopulation problems by acting like an intact house-cat.
The solutions are already here, now some people need to use them.

I guess technically there has not been much name calling, but Eupterus's comment isn't any better.

Yes, but when there are people who are working their butts off day in and day out, who want children, and still can not afford to have any- you could compare them to in tact house cats.

They should have stopped, and they know it. The end of the episode that was just on, she just stated she is hoping God gives her more! She needs therapy!
