He does not need T5HO. Its too much light and expensive too. Go with a double T8 fixture.

That's not very expensive and it comes with bulbs... I was only suggesting it because in the future they might want to go with a
high-tech setup and then they wouldn't need to buy a whole new light fixture.

I've tried reading it a few times. Both before and after you told me to read the sticky. And while I do get the idea, most of it just completely blows my mind lol. I'm sure if someone explained it a little it'd probably click. But looks of numbers, lots of different bulb types. It is a little confusing, atleast for me.

jcardona1 is good with planted tanks. Maybe they will chime in and help to explain things.

Hey,

First of all you can grow plants with pretty much any setup - t5 t8 whatver you use you just have to adapt and know what your lights and tank can handle. I've grown "HIGH" light plants in low light low tech setups and they have done fine! But you see much better thicker growth with more light. Also co2 pressurized is the way to go I didn't catch how big your tank is but it looks to more then 30 gallons which DIY co2 works, but you get much better results with pressurized. pricey but you will see the results.

Lastly Ram and Planted tanks with Co2 is a bad idea, if you do end up going rams I would definetly wait until your tank is VERY established and you have your lighting and co2 all regulated and on schedule. Rams are very sensitive fish to PH. Your Co2 will cause your Ph to drop and go up in the night when your plants arent photosynthsizing the co2. Although your Ph Swing won't be much it's something to look into I would suggest that you look into your PH at different times of the day and see how much it swings from morning to midnight or something along those lines.

Anyways I hope this helps any question you can def send them to me ;) Good luck!!
