Great looking wood... love the shape...

Thanks buddy!

Beauty of a tank set-up! Can see why you love that wood. And your plants look extremely healthy too. What amount of watts have you got over your tank?*:) If queston's too personal, you don't have to answer.(hahahahah!)

Thanks!! the plants looks pretty by accident.. or are those the fake ones? I have real ones in there now.. anyway I think it's a T8 don't know the watts but I'll double check, just not right now.. it's pajama time.. :D

Please let me know about the lighting on your aquarium. Just wanting to know how many watts and the brand of lighs you have. To be able to shine to the bottom and grow plants at that depth of water, must be some high watts? Come on fishmamma, you have to share some of your secrets.:D

Hi Martin Boy, welcome to MFK!!

It all depends on the actual wood, where it came from, what has it been exposed to... ect.. if you are wanting to find your own, I would be familar with the area (that's me though) I've never done it myself, but other members boil it for several hours (not in all cases) to sterilize it. Or if it is a large peice put it in a plastic tub and pour boiling water over it. Which will help sterilize and if you leave it for a period of time, (again depends on you) it will help release some of the tannis that it could possible release.

My wood is Manzanita, and I bought it from an MFK vendor..

Black sand is Caribsea Super Natural Tahitian Moon Sand and you can find it at various local fish stores. Just call and check around, normally goes for about $20 for 20lbs. GL!!
