1st try at sump filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have been following this thread but not posting. I like this one the best.
I am concerned though that your high volume of mechanical media will end up hosting a LOT of your BB. This could be a problem if you were to replace or clean it all at the same time, mini cycle at least.
I would suggest to alternate cleaning the two areas of mech filtration.

Also, if your flow volume is not enough to keep some water above your drip plate then you might have to give the drip plate a slight downward angle from left to right to ensure an even drip across the Bio media.

IMO

perfection

Make sure to update with plenty of pics during the build.

this goes without saying.

the flow should be more than adequate, it should be approx 8000l/h. assuming my pumps only lose about 1000l/h each in flow due to the head height.

and thank you hybridtheory. unfortunately i wont be building the sump, only the finishing with the egg crate. i dont have the space to go messing with a build like this. i wish i did have a garage because i dont work and have the money to buy materials, just no space. you can bet if i ever do get space then i will have no money or time.

X2!!!

One suggestion... put some felt fabric on your drip tray. It will act as yet another layer of fine filtration and will also help the water to spread the full distance of your drip tray...

What no space to work, you guys don't have kitchen tables in scotland?

lol

I know it would not fly in every house hold but I have resealed 3 tanks and built 2 baffled sumps on my work bench I mean kitchen table. Just if you take a stab at it make sure you cover the table with a old cloth before starting. Trying to get wet silicone off your kitchen table before your wife comes home from work sucks.
