2.5 gallon pico tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks everyone! My light is a powerglo and so far seems to be working great for the coral. some of the coral is already starting to spread out a little. Some of the coral was put in after a few months and I've been slowly adding to it but you can't expect it to cover everything overnight! I'm leavingroom for growth and it will look better! There is a clown goby but he hides unless you are feeding him. There is some kind of little starfish that came in on liverock but they are hard to see also. the fun of it is having all these different things but you really have to look to find them. I don't want to do any bigger starfish or anything that will get too big for the tank or take away from everything else. I don't want a center piece. It will be a while but I will have to post pictures again once things start spreading out a little more.

Very nice and you are very brave in my eyes. Small reefs scare the snot out of me! I applause your talent and obvious attention to detail to keep it thriving. Love those Powerglo bulbs myself too. Keep up the excellent work!

If possible, can we get a picture of the little starfish.. !!! please...:)

recently picked up a 2.5 and 5gal mini bowfront tank kit for $5 and $6 and was really considering doing a pico tank but so far I have only done freshwater so thinking it would be way too much of a challenge for me. how long have you been doing this kind of stuff and how much do you think it cost to set up your 2.5 with everything?

Well for your information it looks gr8t!

I agree with everyone else, it looks really good.

I know that I wouldn't try anything that small but it seems like you are making it work quite well.

I have 6 freshwater tanks from 2.5 gallons up to 180 gallons. This was my first ever attempt at saltwater. It helped that I worked at a pet store and got 30% off so that's when I decided I may as well try saltwater while I have the discount. Fortunately for me a guy I worked with has a 75 gallon reef and when some of his corals fall off he gives them to me to try so I've only paid for like 2 of the corals and I only paid like $5 for frags so I wasn't going into this with a ton of money and so far its working. The bulb was like $20 but I got the light fixture cheap off craigslist.

I also add iron, calcium, soft coral food and iodide every couple days. I had a tough time with all different types of algae for a while but once you get through that stage it really is a feat.

Thanks for all the kind words and I'll work on getting starfish pictures, they are TINY!!

awesome, can't wait to see how this develops...thinking I might have to give this a shot...just finished setting up a 5gal freshwater tank at work I might move the stuff over to the 2.5 at home when its done cycling and go for saltwater on the 5. thanks for the inspiration.
