i think that i will run my 150 with the fx5 solo.

i'll be taking my current fx5 from my 125 and add both of the ac110's to the 125, then i'll put the fx5 on my 150.

how about that. saving some money without getting that extra fx5.

I'd get the extra FX5 anyway. Can never have too many filters. Run one FX5 and one AC110 on each tank.

I have 2 FX5s on a 125 and 2 AC110s on a 20g growout :) Of course I have a lot of fish in each tank.

Yep, just barely. 30" tank, minus a bit for the trim, each filter is just over 13". Even have some wiggle room.

haha. That must look funny...almost more water in your power filters than your tank :D That's cool though, wish I had that much over-filtration. I just use 2 Emperor 400s in my 125g (purchased about 4 and 1/2 years ago), I've never really had problems with ammonia or nitrites. Just nitrates when I got lazy in the past and delayed water change(s). At the tanks bio-peak (see: most amount of poo) a couple years ago, I had: 10-12" oscar, 8" jaguar cichlid, 18" ornate bichir, and 3 plecos about 7 inches each.

All in all in the end you have nitrates no filter can change that :) Wonder where your nitrates are if its stocked so heavily you need a 60X turnover rate :)

wow a 1.60... and i thought the 2.50 a piece was good. but i still like my way... all i do is cut it about 2" wider then the gray plastic one and stuff it down in there. the gray one holds it in just fine. i don't even use the carbon anymore really.
I just place the blue bonded pads in the filter and stuff the rest with scrubbies.

i like the bio wheel feature. it's like an instant bio for setting up new tanks.
I too like the biowheels, but it is not an instant bio for new tanks.

the aquaclear system is much better then the 400. the biowheel is a pretty useless feature IMO. its a nice idea, but doesnt always function properly. that, along with a lower flow rate, and inferior bio-media, pretty much speaks for itself. and of course the fact you only have to replace the filter in the aquaclear every 5 years or so.

The biowheel is FAR from useful! It is wet dry filtration so there is more oxygen for the bacteria, hence a larger amount of bacteria can be hosted on a smaller place. Plus they are good for oxygenation and degassing of CO2.

Lower flowrate can be good sometimes, although not as much water goes through, there is probably more contact time through the media.

There is no inferior biomedia, wet dry is good... Very good! Plus, you can add ceramic cylinders to the 400 also, it was not designed only to have the cartridges in it.

Also, I have not replaced the media in my emperor in 6 years, which is how long I have owned it. All you have to do is use blue bonded and scrubbies and you instantly have a better filter than the AC110.

Plus, this filter is almost 20 years old and still going strong.
