Giant Aquarium in Philadelphia got a shipment of small one in about 2 weeks ago. Not sure about the price.
Nice place but they are pretty pricey when they do have something other than flowerhorns in every other tank.

just curious, why are there so many arapaimas for sale when no one (except that guy here who re-did his whole basement into a fish room here) can actually keep them? i'm ok with pacu being sold at petsmart and arowanas at lfs, but araaimas?

Not sure where you see a lot of arapaima for sale. They are actually quite rare and it has actually been quite a few months since I've seen small ones for sale. I do agree that 99% of the people who show interests in the fish shouldn't even consider getting one because they don't have the space for it.

The sad part about the fish hobby is that most people end up killing them anyway. Very rarely do you see these giant stand a chance to get at least half of their potential size.

+ 2 At least at Giant Aquarium there are some pretty big ones in their display tank(4 and 5 footers) for would be buyers to see up close just what they would be up against in the near future.

I think that's actually a good thing that people get to see what they could turn into and give it some though before buying but I know most will ignore it anyway.

Speaking of the giant fish. Anyone a fan of Anthony Bourdain? Catch the episode where he visited the Amazon. He had a 100lbs Arapaima at the dinner table.

I was down at Giant Aquarium a few hours ago and the mascot/display pimas looked to have grown a good bit since I last saw them.Definitely a dream fish which would need a dream system.......I'll look out for Bourdains show, seen a few but not that one.Sounds interesting though,if they didn't cost so much I'd consider raising one for the dinner table.
