You dont HAVE to have odd numbers...who said pairs don't work? Alot of people have done it and still ARE doing it...

So true, these two have been together since May 2007. At that time they were 18 & 21" Now both are 26~27".

wow are they a beautiful couple...

2 has worked just fine for me to, there was some territorial fighting the first 2 weeks but nothing serious enough to separate them. now I have a third aro but not to spread the aggression or anything, just to give it a home.

when these two was put together they were 13 and 16" now both are 20 or a little more..

best to start with a group of 5 then see what 2 get along

thanks for all the advice.. we know that the 55 isn't a permanent solution.. we will be moving in may and will be looking for some place on the ground floor.. the place that we're in now is an older building, and we wouldn't want a 300 gallon tank with arowanas in it crashing through the floor! it sounds like it could go either way.. we wouldn't be getting her a friend until we are in our new place with the larger tank.. once the 300 tank is cycled we would introduce both fish to the new territory, that way the new-comer wouldn't be invading her established tank space..
here she is by the way:

Beautiful aro.

I had 2 x 11" silvers in my 180g, one beat the other to death over night :(....imo i would try getting another 2 at the same size, and introduce ALL 3 into the 300g at once...thats your best bet at it working :D

i have seen 6 fully grown arowanas in the same tank.so it is possible

Six arowana is NOT comparable to a pair of arowana. With 6 the aggression will be spread out among all six, with a pair only the weeker will have to absorb all the aggression.
