2 betta fish in a 75g tank.

I have a 120. Did one male one female didn't work she was dead in a weak. Did a male and a male. Worked just fine. Its a community tank so there plenty of other fish also

i've had 2 males (without females) in 30g without any problems

It should work, but in my experience bettas are a lot more comfortable with their surroundings when they have some decor or plants or something to hide in.
Also, if the male does decide to go after the female, she will need somewhere to hide
