The first pic looks like a white fire mouth, all though I've never heard of one. The other was named an Archer which I looked up online and it doesn't look anything like it. Any info would be appreciated. By the way the 'Archer' looked whiter the first time I saw it. The white fire mouth looked the same both days.

i cant really see them, if you would clean the glass youd get a 10x's better picture

the top one definatley looks like a regular firemouth tho

First looks kinda like a Firemouth to me second I cant tell

first pic looks like either a very stressed or a not-so-colorful firemouth. with all the inbreeding of these common cichlids it's not that uncommon to find some with little to no color.

the second pic looks like a juvie Caquetaia kraussi. I'm attaching a pic of the juvie kraussi I used to have for comparison. :)

You're right the water marks make it hard to see both fish! I took those pics at the LFS and wanted to know more about them. All though the first one looks washed out a lot it isn't to much. It came out that way because the fish has so much white in it.
It really looks like a white fire mouth. It could be poor genes. Wasn't sure if they looked that way when stressed or if it was a different strain.

On the second photo notice the extra fin (orange) hanging down. Hope this helps narrow it down. Jason I looked online and couldn't find a juvie so I'm not sure if it's the same fish. The adults I found had a black spot that is missing in my photo and had solid black bars with no extra orange fin. Notice that it has a solid grey/white bar, and a black bar split by a yellow/orange bar. The face is also mostly white except for the nose area. It's hard to tell by the crapy photo but the washed out area on it's head is only white and comes down at about 45 degree angle cutting through the bars.

Thanks for the feed back. I hope the mystery(s) can be solved.

The first picture is IMO wtihout a doubt a firemouth. Try useing darker gravel and less light and that should help it color up...the pale environment makes it look pale. Either that or it may be stressed. My firemouth looks like that from time to time as well thought I admit, yours is pretty damn pale or white looking.

Yeah, I was gonna say the second picture doesn't really look like a cichlid at all really...most like a dat......good call there black tip...;)....btw..it definately looks like a Thorichthys species...but not really a meeki..its got a lot of blue in the dorsal and caudual..and more spots....sooooooo
