thanks i didn't due anything little clean Buckeye water O H I O
i am not the best ray owner i don't feed as much as i should but i do like a clean tank so i do about 50% water changes once a week don't stock things heavy and they do the rest. how things your way have you had many pups i think you downsized didn't you? well wish u the best with your breeding rays.

Good advice!!!

I've only had a few pups. Think I have more in the oven though. Hoping things start picking up now that I finally got my hands on a decent sized male. Always wondered if consistency is a key factor. I always move stuff around. I think I had the same issue Mike did there for a while... Just too big of a pond.

I know you've been at this a while, I'm just glad you're finally getting some pay off..... Gives people like me hope... lol

DB you prob put more thought and time than i do you will have more pups for sure i wounder if size has any thing to due with it it took awhile before any thing bred for me. i only have one male marble now hoping to go more to dark rays we will see pockets are not that deep but i do have a pr of hens so we will see

I think it all depends on the ladies UNLESS the male is big enough to take what the lady thinks out of the equasion. My buddy Brett has the father of my last litter in a 225 gallon tank with my oldest female (at least 5 years old) and she has yet to ever be knocked up. That male is only about 10 inches though.

I recently aquired a big male (10+ years old) and threw him in my pond with my 3 big ladies and now I will be building a second pond in my basement cause the thing is a monster...... All 3 females are huge and he's angry and relentless. Gonna turn ugly if I don't get him outta there soon.

Hopefully you have as good of luck with the black rays as you are with the Marbles. I'd love to have some black rays but not until I can get my hands on the only brown rays nicer then Marbles.

Hopefully that buckeye water doesn't get contaminated with hawkeye...... ;) lol

Here is an update on the little female pup I got from this litter! She is turning out quite nice so far! Forgot how nice the parents of this pup were until pulling up this thread again. Ignore the tan water - some driftwood is working on leaching out some lovely tanins. These pups have not been kept under brighter lighting until recently. Glass is also a little dirty in the pics, will get some better ones once the tanins clear up....hoping the drip system that is just finished up helps that!

She is 7" now disc size.
