2 foot long paroon sharks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don'T want to steer the subject of the thread but i head id sharks get to 3 feet in a fish tank. I thought i would get a custom build tank of 10-12 feet in the future. In the near future i see a 8 feet by 4 feet 500 gallon for mine.

135 gallon tankis not good enough to house these fish, as is what are you going to do when they get bigger?

were talking about paroons, not id sharks. paroons get much, much bigger

Out of curiosity, how many of those posting actually own paroons?

I'm certainly not arguing that they have the potential to get huge, and I've seen 4'+ ones first hand. But in my experience with my high-fin paroons, their appetites really decreased after they hit around 10" and growth rates slowed a lot. They got to that size within a few months but then took almost a year to get to 12".

Surprisingly, mine were also very peaceful towards tankmates (but fought constantly amongst themselves). I had them since they were about 2-3" and never fed them anything live. Even when they got bigger I exclusively fed them small pellets (from Kenfish). I successfully housed them with many tankmates that they could easily have eaten. They were real pussycats and got pushed around by a P. blochii that was half their size.

I'll admit I was pretty surprised with my experience, it was very different than everything I'd heard people say about them.

Paroons need multi THOUSAND gallon tanks. The paroon is like a rtc will eat ANYTHING and everything. Theres a vid on youtube where a 7" paroon ate a 7" ID. Your better off getting a above ground pool to house them and no tank mates unless those get insanely huge themselves.
