Hello I recently ordered a standard 180 gallon. I have no sump experience ever and would rather just use canisters. I currently have one Fx5 and was wondering if two would be enough filtration? There would be two powerheads as well. Stock would be one Oscar, one Jaguar, eight Clown Loaches. The media in them would be that Fluval Mech in the bottom two baskets and the eheim efhistrate? (I think thats what its called) in the top. Thanks!

To be honest one fx5 with that stock would be perfectly fine I have a 180 stocked with 7 rays 1 aro 2 eels a gar a giantgourami a RTC and a few other fish and im running 1 fx5 and a cascade 1500 both with scrubbies inside and My water parameters are perfect!

I am currently running two Fx5's on my 220gal. They seem to do the job with more stock than that. I am still wanting to add a sump though because most of the fish in the tank are in the 10" to 18" range.

If you find that you need more filtration, an AC110 would be a lot cheaper and do a good job.

My FX5 died, and it's not the first time I've heard of them just not coming back on after you unplug them to clean them. I think it has something to do with the internal computer. It eventually came back to life. However, if we didn't have 2 other canisters (xp3 and xp4's) on that tank, we would have been in big trouble. Out of the filters we have (marineland canisters and rena canisters, plus the FX5) this is the only one that's ever died like that. I wouldn't trust just one. 2 sounds like a much better idea.

what do you recommend for media if I used an ac110 and the one fx5? Media for Fx5 that is? I'm still new to cannisters? Thanks for all the helpful replies!
