2 geryi in the same tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Those are beautiful!

I would not risk it - I would understand if they were easily replaceable - hate to say it, but true. But why risk one or both of your prize fish? It's not like having them together will make them any nicer.
I would set up two tanks beautifully - one for each, and enjoy. Twice the pleasure, in fact.

I'm the opposite. If I can't shoal them (at this size I wouldn't risk putting 3-6 in a tank together that weren't raised together), I'd unload one to get something else I want. They are amazing though but I wouldn't house two separate tanks

The two positions can be defended.
But I'll keep my two fishes ; geryi are so rare... I'll set up 2 tanks ; that's the wiser decision.
When I purchased the 2, the importer had 9 but 6 had been reserved and I didn"t have the money to purchase the last one...

Here's my final say …. invest in the last one - (and another tank for it!) and create a breeding program - assuming you get one of each sex which is more likely with 3 - and make yourself a millionaire if you put your head to it.
:)

They shoal. George had a pack of good size fish together for a long time in his store. I guess nobody could afford them at the time, peak of the recession. I estimate it was a 6 ft tank.
I'd say try in a bigger tank. I wouldn't go smaller than 6ft.

@fwprawn : :ROFL:But it's too late to buy the last one.
@HarleyK : if I can find two new geryi, I'll try to put the 4 in a 180 gallons. With spring, importations are going to become possible ; I'll take a look at the stock-lists.
I receive 2 6" manueli in one month.

Thanks to all for your advices!

They do shoal.. I know a guy who had 7 in a single tank (and it wasn't a 10000gal either..I think 150 gal) had them for years like that with no major issues.

However you "only" have 2 so aggression will be a precision act on one another instead of spread out over several different Geryi. Can be done but risky.

with that being said if it were me..I would keep one solo n NOT SELL the other but TRADE it..for another fish I wanted that's hard to buy.

Cash is good to everyone but ive noticed when people get rid of a rare fish they IMMEDIATELY want something else to replace it so a trade is a good way to go..especially when you have a beautiful Geryi in your pocket.
