I was wondering if it would be possible to keep 2 green terrors in a 55. They're only 3 inches right now. I'm not sure on the sex. They do seem to be hanging around eachother more recently, so I'm hoping maybe they are male and female and will pair up. Even if they don't I'd like to keep them together if possible. Thanks.

Well what about a regular jack dempsey and an electric blue? Someone is giving me the 55. I have these in a 210 gallon aquarium that's going to be a little crowded in the future when all the fish in it get grown. I am going to get more tanks and separate some of the fish, but was hoping since I was getting the 55 for free I could put something I already have in there. Thanks again.

the easiest way to tell is by the colors, the female will have green striping around the face area and the male will have blue and not as fat looking.Depending how big that Jack Dempsey is,its doable for a 55 gallon for now at least.Usually a 55 gallon is good for fishes the max of 8 inches, but people have put male Texas who were 10 inches into a 55 gallon by itself, with at least a female companion that doesn't grow into a monster.People who say not enough space for a 55,only fallow a fish bible, but sometimes its understandable, cause people who don't take the hobby serious, only want a maximum of a 55 gallon to shove 14 inch cichlid in a 55 gallon thinking they are fine for life and want to do less work on the tank. You may get lucky like me who has cichlids that are mostly females and a maybe 1 or 2 males in my 125 gallon, the only male I know of is my Texas, who may or may not make it,due to a injury from a female Green Terror,so you better keep a eye on the female GT when they grow close to 6 inches. They will mess up any fish that they don't like period and its not just lip locking either, they will shred other fishes apart,at least that is what my GT did,who I had to get rid of.

2 gt's for a 55 is a no no... sure you can grow them out in a 55..... remember male gt's reach 10-12" and females max out at about 8" any fish that reaches over 8" should not be kept in a 12" wide tank....

Well if he is keeping them in the 55 gallon for a temporary set up,then I don't see why not, they are not very fast growers to be honest. When I had my female GT as a juvie last year,it took her almost a whole year to get close to 5 in half inches.

I think you'd be fine for awhile. Saums grow very slowly, but once they reach 5-6" the "terror" part of the name will most likely become more apparent. If they are in fact a pair you could house them in there for awhile eventually upgrading to at least a 75. If you find you have 2 males then even the 75 might not be enough.

dont bash me im just asking but y couldnt u keep a fish that maxes at 8" in a 12" tank? it can fully turn around. i have a bigger tank so i dont have this prob but i think a single 8" fish would be alright

the problem is they dont get 8" they get 10-12" do you think a 10-12" fish would be happy living in a tank thats as wide as it is long of course not.....
heres a 13" gt caught by modestman...
