I have 2 tanks with 6' x 3' footprints that have 1/2" glass. One is a plywood tank with angle iron all around and two metal braces across the top (definitely no bowing there) and the other has a very large center brace and two side braces. I added braces along the front edge as well (for peace of mind). I think 1/2" is okay for 2' tall tanks if it is well braced.

It looks like the 270g is approx 510lbs depending on the size of the top bracing/silicone/trim...pretty close to 510lbs though...
Great price and very tempting...

It's a nice lift :)

The 72x36x24 is approximately 460 lbs (give or take a few pounds).

36 square feet of 1/2" glass (6.7 lb per sq ft)

18 square feet of 3/4" glass (10.1 lb per sq ft)

6 or 7 square feet of 3/8" glass for bracing (a little over 5 lbs per sq ft)

Needless to say, you'll need 4 strong men!

Yes, weight is something to consider.

But it shouldn't be too often that you would have to move a tank around and when the time comes...I'm sure there's always someone around to help :).

Then again, some people like to move things around all the time :D
