2 male Severums showing breeding behavior :S

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I understand being married, 31 and having 4 children that male-male can't produce viable offspring lol! that's not what i was asking, I was asking can 2 male Severums pair off?

I had 2 x gold male severums that tried once in a while to prepare a pit and clean rocks the larger 8" pretended to fertilise the imaginary eggs I read somewhere on google that they do role play when there in breeding mode I would say though they did turn quite aggressive to each other just after. They were defiantly both male 7 and 8" I had them for 2 years. They are quite quirky fish so it's no great surprise lol

lol, has anyone else got opinions on my Gold Severums sex, 'he' is well to young/small to breed anyway, i said 4" in my first post as a guess, but that would be including his tail, without his tail he is about 3-3.5".

His facial markings look male, but they are very faint and not red.

Thats exactly what my 8" Red Spot is doing, and they are both fanning a clean rock with no eggs, like i said tho, if my gold turns out to be a female, its well to young/small to lay eggs anyway.

They are both chasing away all the other fish and keeping all the others to one side of the tank, and attacked my gravel hoover and hand earlier.

Wouldn't be dogmatic about it but I agree the gold might be a female. Can you see any evidence that the fish in question has eggs, such as a developing bulge in the lower mid-section?

Bottom line is if you keep an eye on them you should know soon enough.

Nope no signs other than it showing a bit of stress (flushed out with a few grey blotches) its still very much a baby, i have bred Severums multiple times before and they tend to be 7"+ before they do it, i bought this one as a juvi a couple of months ago at 1" and have grown it to the size it is now, but its still very much a juvi

like i said, they both have the 'male' facial markings, very obvious on the red and faint on the Gold (both pics on page one)

I had 4 gold sevs at one point. Example of my M and F gold sevs, my female still had facial markings but not as exaggerated as my male's.
