not really planning on breeding just think 2 would look nice. but if theres going to be ongoing aggression id rather go with the 1
 
I have 2 smaller ones (about 5-6") and they don't fuss too much with each other. I'm not sure if that will change as they age. What else is in the tank? If I'd had the option for a larger one, I would have gone with that.
 
will only be about 5 palm size silver dollars and for now about a 4" red tail cat
 
im looking for a Larger sized cichlid to kind of centerpiece the tank. and cant be red.. only red i want in the tank is the Cats tail

im leaning towards the (2) 5.5"ers aswell.. this is all in a 240
 
I'd suggest a H. Bocourti for the centrpiece. They get pretty big and once they mature their colors are stunning. Another MFK (buddah2000 I believe) has the best looking male I've ever seen.
 
I'm going to go against the other suggestions and say get 1. See the psittacus thread in the Media Lounge for my reasoning. Mine turned extremely aggressive toward each other at 4" or so and I sold all but one. If you only get two, chances are you'll have a dominant fish that beats the crap out of a submissive fish. The chances of picking two random fish and getting a compatible pair is not a good one.

Besides, at over 12" mine dominates a 210.
