2 month old Babies

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i got caught up in the excitement of this, i have 3 very very small rbp's and they are together in a 10 gallon for the time being, i setup my tank and filter/heater etc and let it run for about 24 hours and stabilize water temp right at a consistent 80 degrees F before putting my fish in. i put a very small guppy in just to see there initial reaction to it, and it was eaten within 20 minutes of being placed in. i keep my feeders in a small unheated, untreated fish bowl seperate from my rbp's, this is hopefully a good sign of things to come with them being accomodating of the food i feedt hem.
Hi, Welcome to MFK, glad you like your p, ive had them for years and have always thought they were the coolest fish, i like the way they look and move. They will grow incredibly fast at that age, start looking for a 55 gallon for the three of them. you can find good deals. also keep them well fed for they will canabalize, well actually they may canabalize anyway. they are great little friends, not like the fish in the movies.

like about 6 months old now, sunnies have made great tank mates, have had them in there all summer with only a couple casualties, my p are well fed, i think that help, ive been feeding them a once a week suppliment of cooked chicken, other wise its been frozen fillets and bait shop earthworms.

By the way, I read up on the DIY project when you were making this tank.
I have to say, I was really impressed, you stuck with it when most people would have let the kids dismantle it. And it has really paid off seeing that it has remained water tight all this time so far. You can also have the pride of knowing you actually made your own tank.
And I absolutely love the 3d background; it’s a creation to be proud of in its own right!
Although personally I think it is only worth making a tank yourself if you are making something of 300 gallons or bigger. You did say this was a prototype, considered making a bigger one with your new knowledge?

yea i want to make a bigger one, wife already hates this one though, so probly not

Try persuading her that the new one will look nothing like the current one.
By no means am i insisting this current tank is bad, but we agree it is not perfect (because it was an experience and first lesson), right?

Tell her you will be doing it properly, getting the wood cut professionally etc.
Maybe take her out for a few dinners, you know, the usual buttering up.

Just imagine a 600 gallon, with a shoal of 30 large red bellies patrolling...
To be honest I am trying to persuade you to live out my dream first here lol

hey, shes real fussy about our house, but she has never said a word about the looks, she more complains that it takes a wall and is "unnecessary" and uses it againt me "but you got that stupid fish tank in the sitting room", it gives her a liscence to do whatever she wants with the rest of the house. this was a prototype, but it was way too much work, and im adding on to my kitchen, putting up a purgola, got the upstairs bathroom tore up, all kinds of stuff, she would go balistic if i started a "bigger" tank. women are all nuts, but mine seems to be the highest elevation of the species. Plus shes a therapist, my chances of sweet talking, tricking, or even begining to win an argument for a bigger tank are a waste of time. So anyway, think i just go buy the stuff and start building!!! she might be in denver for week for thanks giving!! HOOYA

 not being married means i can't see through such walls yet.
I think i will emphasize my love for big tanks before i pop the question to 'Miss Right', that way she cant say i did not warn her. And i can safely say i will be crossing 'therapists' off my possiblity lists lol.

Maybe treat her to one of them health spars for a week if she does not go to Denver? Then she will come back all relaxed and mellow...maybe she will not even notice the brand new 600 gallon taking up the largest wall in the house?

Ah well, at least you can say you done something not many people would have the bottle of knowledge to do, and build you own tank!

I wouldn't worry about feeding them feeders or minnows from the pet store. Piranhas are scavengers, and they sense the sick and weak thats why they attack. I feed my P's dead feeders and minnows all the time, they love it:popcorn: I just wouldn't try it with other types of fish

yea ive done wild caught since i was a kid, p love them, its something to chase, the only problems ive had was bait shop minnows, my sunfish that were in the tank with the p got a funny skin condition for a while once. they like baitshop worms though, no problems there
