Hey everyone,
just picked up a couple new baby devil/midas. they are both under an inch currently and i put them in my 90 gallon with 2 mid size plecos. other than that they are the only fish. i only intended on buying one but the color on two of them was so striking that i really could not make my mind up. while I realize that at their small size i shouldn't run into any problems for a while, I also understand that, especially if they both turn out to be males, the potential exists for problems down the road. If they are going to be aggressive and fight, at what size do you think that might start to happen, taking the tank size into consideration of course. would throwing some dither fish in the tank before they start to act aggressively help out or hurt? i realize personality is highly variable but if anyone has any advice i would truly appreciate it.

i will post pics as soon as i can. the bigger one is mostly orange with intense red areas on his sides, and the smaller is orange with almost pure white fins and blue eyes...sexy!

They start to turn evil at the 4-5" mark. Time will tell whether they'll be compatible or you'll end up with a pair.

When purchasing my Midas there was defiantly a ranking among these 1.5" fish. I of course bought the dominant one and he turned out to be a male.

With a pair it always seems one is the dominant fish and the other is weaker and gets picked on till it is stressed out and not getting food. At this point the 90 is huge compared to the store tank they came from, so you will probably have it easy for a little while.

I picked out the runt of the tank when I got my rd and hes a beast now at 5inch. I thought I would have to get the biggest to get a good male but sometimes guess not. For two weeks he was getting bullied before I felt bad enough to take him.

Btw..pics?

the two i ended up picking out had the nicest colors but also seemed the most outgoing, swimming right up to me basically. they seem to kind of be doing their own thing for now, only see them together once in a while. hope they end up being a pair or at least compatible with eachother. will be posting pictures tomorrow, all i have right now are a couple crappy ones i took on my phone.

i got my RD at 2" hes now 7" this took about 2 months O_O

Thats quite a growth rate... are you measuring accurately? What is his diet and water change schedule like?

Thats how I picked mine, he was friendly, even tho he was getting chased all over. And he was the only blue one at an inch and a half. Now hes white which is what I wanted so it worked out. Best fish.
