Was at a local pet store today. And i noticed they had a tank of about 25 fhs. From 2 to 3 inches. I have been looking for some cheap fry forever. So i took 2 home and put them in a 20 long. I tried to choose the most colorful hoping they will be males. Or at least one will be. How long are they good in the 20 long for? Will they kill each other. The dude at the store said they will be fine. But he prolly doesnt know what he is talking aboout. They are sticking to opposite sides of the tank.

Finally got a fh!

You're gonna need at least 100+(Dividing the tank)for 2 Fh's. I wouldnt be surprised if you end up with 1 flowerhorn by the end of next week.

I have about 14, 3 inch juveniles in a 180 gal tank they are fine but 2 in a 20 gal isn't going to work. One may be dead tomorrow. ALL the dominant ones aggression is going to be focused on the weaker one.
If there are enough fish in a tank to spread out the aggression and the bioload is not too high, flowerhorns can live together.
Its nice to see a fellow canadian on this site.

Ha the flowerhorn answered the question for me. The lil one pounded the bigger one. I have them seperated by eggcrate. I just meant growing wise can they stay in there divided till they are a lil bigger like 4 inches?

Fish store guy is such a liar hahah i was gonna get 3 he said they would work for the time being in the 20 long. Time being meaning 5 mins.

Grow them in the 20 long as long as you can and then when they start to freak ape sh** because the tank is too small, partition them in a 75. I have seen 55 gallons with 2 10 inch plus FH living just fine. But they do better in larger tanks.

Thanks for the info. They are real cool fish. The reason i put them in the 20 long is bc its in my room. They are hilarious. The lil one is poking its mouth thru the egg crate, just reminding the other one whats up. in the 2 hours they were together the big one got its fins shredded. How much should i feed theses guys? They are eating every nls pellet they see. They even ate some cut up earthworm.
only have kept africans, do i just treat em the same?

have a happy feeding...
