I have 2 HOB filters on my 90. My stock is one 9" oskar, 12" tiretrack eel, 3" green terror. One of the filters is an aqua tech and the other is a tetra. They came free with my old 55 and I transferred them to my90. They're each rated for 60 gallons. I feel that they are doing a poor job as the water is not that clean and there's not much flow from one of them. Even though it's cleaned weekly. I'm considering either getting two new HOB filters thosye AC110s? Or Emperor 400s? OR just getting an fx5 to supplement the filters I have now. What do you think would be better? Thanks

best would be an fx5, just for how much water it cna filter. however the AC110's are great little filters as well, and will keep your tank clean and clear.

either choice would work out well.

Which would be better a $300 FX5 or $170 worth of AC 110s?...

Not in every case, but quite often... you get what you pay for... considering everything (except price) the FX5 would be better...

But when you compare effeciency... including initial price... including ease of maintenance... it becomes a very close race...

The 2x AC110s will have a higher gph rating than the FX5... they will also experience less loss due to media restriction and head pressure...

Depends how much you wanna spend, if it doesnt matter might as well go with the fx5 and keep the 2 HOB's that are on it now.. If you wanna save money get 2 AC 110 off of dr.fosters.. Or buy Both.. I have 2 AC 110 and a Fluval 404 on my 72 gallon.. Check craigslist or look on here there is always someone selling something if ur not in a rush wait for a deal 2 come by...

2 AC110 would be the better option in my opinion.
What about a smaller canister(2217 or similiar) and a AC110

I would only go the FX5 route if you are planning on upgrading in the future.

I don't think its worth the extra expense on 90g tank when two AC 110's is more than enough.

I ran a 90g with an AC110 and an AC70 for 15 years, with a heavy bioload. sure you need to clean them often since they don't have the media capacity of a canister, but it takes no time at all..

however, if you feel you will be upgrading to something bigger, say 125 and up in the future, the FX5 will come in very handy..

Because its 50 dollars more to get the FX5 over the 2217 and the fX5 im sad to say rocks the 2217 from what I have seen

Im sorry, I didnt know that fx5 were $170, thought they were like $300 plus media.
