2 NGT's?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The key with NGT's is not having just more datnoids as they rarely show excess aggression with other species. The problem is amongst themselves. If you have just 2, they will eventually find each other and one will kill the other or both will have leasions that lead to their death. However, several NGT's together are ok. I have 9 in a tank and they are ok with each other. I placed 2 in a pond and they are ok so far only because the pond is a 300 gallon round pond with tons of drifwood.

So What your saying Ivan is that it doesnt matter if I have a bunch of other dats. Their aggressive is only towards conspecifics?

Also Ivan, NGT's were the source of introduction of The Disease into your tanks right?

Well if the guy has more than a couple of nicely colored ones I will get them. As long as they are OK together for a couple of weeks of quarantine. I can always put them in different tanks later.

NGT's were indeed the cause of the outbreak of disease in my tanks. I have since then learned the good lesson of quarantine and also some ways to cure the disease if it was to show up again.

No matter if you have all other species , the NGT's will search each other out and fight, at least usually they will do that. You can never speak of absolutes in fish keeping.
I have 2 small NGT's in a 180 gallon tank that is loaded with driftwood and they never see each other so they are ok. Same goes for the 2 bigger ones I have in a pond. The 9 I have in a tank swim by each other as if they don't realize they are there.
