is anybody eles p's afraid of light? i just put in a new light bulb that makes it blue and dark and they are still scared. i also put in black extract and it still doesnt work. any suggestions?

my p's ate both of my plecos, so i need something that will keep my tank clean. any subitutions?

My P's are afraid of anything, lights, me, other fish, you name it.
As for other fish to put in with them, a big cichlid will be ok for a while, like an oscar or JD. My P's have never bothered my pleco's, thats odd.

ive never seen an oscar clean anything...maybe i dont know them enough. but for myself, i'm moving into a larger tank filled with natural plants n i didnt want my pleco to eat them all. my local supplier told me i would need about 20 snails to clean the ''alga'' (not sure about alga, im french guy soo....) and a big shrimp would eat all the uneaten chunk of food.

I had my P's since dime size and raised them with the lights running .
Mabe try introducing to light little at a time like leave them on for longer
and so on each day . Also I had started to use plants to float around
the top of the tank , Helps reduce light .

get a larger pleco that is bigger than the p's.. and as far as an oscar in a p tank thats just rediculous lol no offence but they dont clean thats for sure they are probably the messiest fish i have ever owned, even a pleco can do more messing of the tank then anything else

about your light problem, be sure you dont keep them open to long in a day. any ps with too much light will be more nervous than usual (even if they are skittish by nature). i had a similar problem since i was keeping my lights open from 8 am to midnight...not sure about the exact numbers, but if im right my local supplier told not more than 6-8 hours of light a day

my plecos was like 5in. long and my p's were like an 1 to 2ins they just attack the hell out of it. they wrent starving or anything like that

well p's are aggressive..this is something you should expect with p's...i'd get a very large pleco like someone suggested and see what happens

Some people get lucky with keeping other fish with piranhas, others do not. You are one of the ‘do not’. Some might even count that as a blessing as you are lucky enough to have the utmost aggressive piranhas. In your case I would try a very big pleco, 10 inches or so maybe? If that does not work, then cut the cord and realise no fish can be kept with your piranhas. In which case, an algae scraper will be your best friend.
