Yes, I know, don't put 2 rhoms in the same tank. My question is, how big a tank would one need to even attempt this. Say, 2- 6 inchers. And, has anybody actually attempted this? I know a gigantic 10 000 gal would work, but, what would be the minimum size?

I forgot who did this test but they put 2 betta in a pond even with all the room they still manage to find each other and fight. Rhoms are alitte different but with their tempermant I would say you wil get the same outcome. I wouldn't try it. If you rreally want to I wouldn't leave them alone without a divider.

Have you thought about a heated swimming pool  .

In my opinion it would be best if you just put a divider... also one question for those Rhom experts... if you can't keep them in a tank together how owuld they make babys?

To my knowledge rhom have never been bred in captivity. The problem is sexing them. Not many people will risk losing a large rhom in an attempt to breed them. They are not like chiclids one bite may prove to be fatal.

Valuble fish to risk but if I were to try it I would want a well planted 8'x8'x2 1/2' pond.

actully there was a thred sim to this on P.fury and someone said that a casino in vegas kept two piranha your not spossed to keep togeather... and they bread. i think i read thier tank was 8'x 4'x4'. so it can happen. hope you have the casinos pockets.

pygos and sera sp. are different. Red bellies ps are easy to breed. But Rhom which is in the sera family is very tough because they are not a schooling fish like the rbps. I would fly to vegas in a heartbeat if they have a pair of rhoms breeding.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it is illegal to have piranhas in Nevada? If so then its not a casino in vegas.
