hi there :)

im thinking of buying 2 3inch senegal bichirs for my 6ft tank comm tank. i currently have a 5inch silver aro, 3 tinfoil barbs,2 blood parrots n a 5-6 inch bgk. i have a 4ft sump tank with lotsa ceramic rings and adequate mechanical filtration.

so would those small bichirs be ok in that tank? n i use lotsa rocks in me tank. need yr advice b4 i do anything wrong

My main concern would be the aro eating the polys. Get them on a tilapia and hikari carnivore diet and they'll bulk up pretty quickly. If you give them enough hiding places they'll have time to grow up a bit without the aro getting any chance to snack.

i have a pvc pipe and a driftwood. would that an ok place for bichirs to hide?

and would 2 bichirs show agression towards each other?
and tilapia is kinda expensive here n hikari sinking pellets is not available at any lfs in my area :( would deshelled prawns be a good alternative?

prawns would be great, so long as the polys are the same size it's unlikely they'll show any aggression towards one another. The pvc pipe and driftwood are great for hiding spots. Sounds like you've got this pretty well thought out.

I would put them in a grow out until atleast 6" or so, thats what im doing with my handful of sens i get at petsmart before I throw them in with the big boys, but then again, if your aro is only 5 inches, he isnt much of a threat until he outgrows the sens...

My thoughts too. A 5 inch arrow is un likely going to dive down on the bottom after a 3" sen. I mean you never know if they are free swimming but it's unlikley. You would know your first best, but I never even had my 6-7" arrow take out my school of Buenos Aries tetras.

my silver aro rarely dives down to the tank. he's eating hikari sticks. i think that would be a good way to train him to be friendly with his tank mates dont u think? plus my tank is like 3ft high.
