to treat ick? so 150 teaspoons for a 75g. i know thats what i read but it just seems high. do you guys add it all at once or gradually?

2 Teaspoons per gallon is correct, dissolve it in water before adding it to the tank, dont just dump it in...

You can add it all at once during a water change as long as the temperature of the new water is the same as the tank water (+/- 3 degrees). The sudden temp change will have much more effect on the fish than the sudden change in salinity.

BGK aint gonna like it

he is doing ok with it. still eating like crazy. like i said i would rather put the bgk thru salt treatment than a med. i went with 1 tablesppon per 5 gallons instead of 2 teaspoons per gallon. no signs of ick left except on the new pictus. im setting up another hospital tank for him today.

Fish can tolerate higher levels of salt than most would think. A lot of people even dose their tank with 1 tbs / 5 gal regularly, although I would recommend against it. Anyways, your fish would be able to handle the 2 teaspoon per gallon for a short period easily, and it would help with the ick, but if the treatment you have already started is working, I guess stay the course. Just know that if you have to you can bump up the salt. I have a bgk and Ive done both before with no problems (both 1 tbs / 5 gal and 2 tsp / 1 gal).

The treatment level for ich or costia is 2 teaspoons per gallon, I disolve it in water in a pitcher than pour it into the inflow from the filter so that it gets completely dispersed through the tank. 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water is just for tank maintainance levels.

Thanks guppy. i went with the 1tablespoon for 5 gallons with heat at a min of 86 and the ich went away. even the pictus that was bad made it.
