I know there are several pangasius species- but I was wondering if there is more than one fish commonly known as the paroon- the reason Im asking is Ive seen paroons that look like IR sharks with fin extensions and Ive seen pale silver grey fish with long black fins- I was thinking juvenile and adult coloration, but Ive seen both of them from just a few inches to a few feet?

i think ive had this fish you have discribed about 10 tears ago. mine was silvery grey/white and had tall dorsal fins like a sanitswongi (mispelling). they were sold to me under the name Pangasius Gigas. they grow huge - hence the name.

yeah- the fish(I ended up with three but gave 1 to a close friend and see it all the time) all are now definitely the paroons that I thought they were- far wider heads, lighter in color, way longer and darker fins, and much more aggressive in hunting for food- theyre definitely not IR sharks- my buddy has 3 of them also to compare
