I got the tank resealed and its been running for about 2 weeks. I thought the seal looked weird so i ran my finger up and down each seal and a thin film came off. Is that normal after reseal. Theres no leaks and the seals feel solid. so why did it do that. Is it just something that happens after being in the water or was it just a build up of something? Again no leaks from what ive seen i was just wondering...

I don't get why it did it tho. My seal feels solid tho. the stuff that came off was so thin it just fell apart on touch I don't see how that could effect anything. If I do a reseal it won't be till spring when I can do it outside

You did not let the silicone fully cure. It takes over 2 weeks depending on how thick the silicone is. What happens is teh silicone quickly develops a skim coat (which is what came off) and it can feel solid but be very wet underneath. It takes awhile for the chemical process to run its course and fully cure the silicone. There is a chance with it still being submerged it actually never fully cured and that is where your leak potential comes from. It may be OK or it may not, I personally would reseal it and wait the full cure time before doing a water test. On a side note what type of silicone did you use?

ive never heard of letting the tank sit for 2 weeks. I was always told 2 days. i didnt lay the seam thick at all.

When I fixed my 240 it took atleast 5 days to feel dry but I let it sit for 3 weeks just to be on the safe side.
