^ Well, as the article said, other fish from inside China were used and are now basically endangered as well, so if i were to guess, the most traditional form of the medicine probably used the liver of that particular fish, and then over the years, the fish from Mexico was added to the list of useable fish livers...

Now whether that happned was 50 years ago, or 1000 years ago i don't know, but sadly its happening and still is...

How is a fish from Mexico part of thousands of years of tradition?
LOL!...Too bad roaches are not considered to be a delicacy or an aphrodisiac...There'd be no ghettos thanks to the fortune that could be made from them.

Hahahaha... well in Chinese there is a saying something along the lines of; if it walks on all fours, and has its back to the sky, its edible...

While the Chinese demand for bladders is helping to exterminate the species, it was the U.S. constructing Hoover Dam that started the decline....

i bet the fish is probably like said by fat homer, a similar species of fish that went extinct in that part of the land. Like if arowanas went extinct over there and then people smuggled in jardinis. And I doubt it's just everyday people. All cultures have our environment killing habits, IE our giant polluting cars
