Either pong will be fine for them. And they will deffinatly survive a NC winter. They survive the frigid MI winters. I'd say get em and put them in the pond where you can see em. But if they start causing problems you can always move em.
Channel cats are gamefish here in Ky. I fish for them year around and they are tasty! A typical trip using jugs will net around 20 fish in the 2 to 6 pound range. The largest I have ever caught on a rod and reel was 19 pounds. The record for KY is 32 pounds. I believe the world record is in the 80 pound range.

Yes channel cats. Flatheads get larger and Bluecats largest of all. The largest Ky flathead on record was 97 pounds caught in the green river. The record Blue cat was 104 pounds from the ohio river.
