hey i might be coming into a 20 gallon and would like to set up a brackish tank, i already have the thing to measure salt, and i am going to put a dragon Goby in there so what else could i put in and what are some things to look out for or major rules to follow:confused:

dragon gobies get to like 12" maybe more. you could do some of the smaller gobies, like knight gobies or bumblebee gobies. even butis butis.

you could get the smaller species of mudskipper in there, or a figure 8 puffer.

if you do go for the dragon goby, an upgrade will be on the cards. biger tanks have more options, and brackish fish generally get quite big. archers, scats, monos, freshwater moray eels, columbian shark catfish, and the brackish datnoids, are all capable of growing over 12". and that includes the dragon goby...

I would go against the dragon goby and I would personally do:

2 x Knight goby
8 x Bumbleebee Goby
2 x Butis Butis
Or instead of the bb gobies maybe 2 figure of 8 puffers.

I would almost rather have a ten gallon tank that you aquascaped really well and have a colony of reproducing bumblebee gobies. These fish to pair up, and will make little "homes". Very cool/interesting to watch. Be careful mixing them though because they are TINY, and bigger fish will obviously take advantage.

I personally wouldn't keep bumblebee gobies with Butis butis or knight gobies. Those fish are too big and they're predators.
A healthy dragon goby will hit 24" in a few years. Don't even consider a 20 gal for one.
As mentioned above, bumblebees are cool to have, and a 20 gal would make a nice tank for a colony of them. Alternately, you could keep a few dwarf mudskippers, but that would exclude almost anything else from the tank I think.

the 20 gallon is just for now, i think next year i am going to try and upgrade my 75 gallon and then put the dragon in the 75 (if all goes well) but right now i have an offer on the 20 gallon set up for free :)

so i am thinking a puffer, just one, or going dragon and bumblebees, those guys are so cool, i had a few before i knew they were brackish, same with my dragon(he is in fresh right now), i hate big fish stores for that reason , anyhow a 20 gallon brackish would be a huge improvement from his freshwater right now

Dragon will probably make snacks out of Bumblebees. Ive never had a dragon, but my bumblebees were TINY and DEFENSELESS... Sooo not so sure about that combo. Ive heard that dragons are best kept in species tanks anyways...
