Ok I will be getting a 20 gallon terrarium soon and I was wondering what type of herp I should put in there. I was thinking some sort of amphibian or small lizard any ideas?
You could do a pair of dart frogs. A male ball python along with corn snakes, milk snakes etc. Lizard wise you could probably do 1 or 2 collard lizards which are pretty colorful, a group of leopards. if i were you id go on to kingsnake.com and faunaclassifieds.com and just look around and see what you like.
Mossy tree frogs are awesome. Corn snakes and ball pythons will both out grow a 20 gallon tank and destroy the set up. If you want a snake keep something very small and arboreal (rough green snake is a good one). for lizards you could keep some uroplatus or day geckos or anoles but anoles can be messy. Keep them small. If you add an animal into a paludarium you want them to be extras- the focus is going to be the plant life and natural set up.
No but my parents said that if I wanted a big predatory frog like pixies it would have to be native to Florida. In fact I would love to have a pixie but I can't.
I know that I will have to get more terrariums when I am an adult because there are so many amazing creatures I want to keep. Of corse there will always be room for the basics and one of my favorites fire bellied toads.
