I have a good suggestion for you from previous experience. Throw in there an oscar. The only thing I would worry about if i were you would be filtration. since you want to go with a big fish, wichever you choose, there will be alot of waste, so think about good filtration

hahahhahahahahhhaha OMG! aaaahahahhahahha

This guy is funny!....i think....

Well, im not sure if he is joking or not so just in case you arent 100% sure, Oscars are a BIG no no!
Even a 55Gal is pushing it for a lone oscar.

If i was going to go with the biggest fish for the tank i would choose a....umm.... Probably a Puffer, OK maybe they dont get big but it will eat flesh :headbang2

Off the top of my head I'm not coming up with any good single fish to keep alone although the puffer idea is very good. With a 20g the first thing that always comes to my mind is having several little "gem" mid swimmer fish plus smaller bottom dwellers.

20 or so cardinal tetras + 4 corys.
or
5 rasboras + 5 diamond tetras +5 rummynose tetras + bristlenose pleco.
etc. etc.

If you want something with personality you could go with dwarf cichlids

I agree with the puffer!!! I miss my puffers :( They're awesome little fishies! Check out my gallery for pics :)

20g tanks are usually only a foot wide so you cant keep a fish much longer than 8" and the preferably not to active, unless it is an eel. you could keep ropefish or spaghetti eels easily. If you want a fair sized fish (compared to the standard tetras and such) there are a few. My choice would be a Gangetic leaffish, the Nandus nandus, and one of the smaller plecos, The nandus gets about 8" long and is a lazy cruiser except when feeding, then it is usually a stalk and pounce predator, I think they are attractive and are fine predators that can be trained to take pellets.

Pictus Cats will eat small feeders if given the chance. It'll grow to 6" and they're pretty active.
