I’m taking of adding a 20 long tropical tank, I’m moving the native tank to the lab (I made a thread about native fish). I like the river stream style tank and I could get enough tricks to grow biofilm in our fish lab at Bemidji State. I was thinking stream loaches, panda loaches, stipodon gobies and maybe a small school or white clouds

I personally would just do the Stiphodon Gobies and Hill Stream Loaches . White Cloud Minnows do better in unheated a unheated aquarium.
So only loaches and gobies, could a desert goby work too? Any fish that would swim in the water Collum?
You could try the White Clouds but like stated they prefer cooler temperature. Tbh no experience with the desert goby.

The gobies he mentioned are not desert gobies. You can do white clouds or any number of danios in a hillstream tank. Check out Seriously Fish to find suitable species. One favorite stream fish of mine is panda garra. They are social and a lot of fun to watch. Sometimes they all lay together like clown loaches and sometimes they are all doing their own thing.

9 Brown tailed recently added Pencil fish.
I rarely see the Banjo Catfish lol they stay buried under the sand and leaf litter. My water is hard so I've added dried Oak leaves which releases Tanins and helps soften the water.
