Hi All!

First post on MFK. Been reading this site for years I always thought keeping monster fish would be a little cray. Now they are all I want to keep!!

My 200 gal tank is finally arriving. It's 7ft x 2ft x 2ft, roughly 210 gallons + a 75G sump. I have a stocklist in mind for a Hap/Peacock tank but I've been playing with the idea of an american tank instead. I was wondering if anyone here can suggest a stock list. Here are my top picks

Midas
Oscar
P. Dovii
P. Loisellei
Vieja Argentea.

Others:
Electric Blue Jack Dempsey
Red Terror

Would a combination and/or multiple of any of these work?

Has anyone tried a community of my top 5?

Cheers,
Leon

my 250, 80 x 26 x 26, has 2 Dovii , 11 and 7 inch, 2 barred Midas, 6 and 5 inches, 2 red devils 5 and 4 inches.. I know eventually only 1 (or 2, i doubt it) will eventually be left in the tank. its been several months and no casualties, the latest that I added was the 7 inch dovii and that was last month and he is doing fine, the 11 inch dovii is chasing, but just driving the other fish away when he feels like it...

Take the dovii off your list. And add a couple more sa/ca in similar size and aggression as the other 4. And you could be ok. Never can truly tell with aggressive sa/ca. The dovii will never work in the long run. Just my opinion

my 250, 80 x 26 x 26, ...

Not quite a 250...

To the OP, with those dimensions I would stick to less aggressive SA's like Oscars and GT's and maybe some silver dollars if you want a community. Otherwise is a good size for a nice breeding pair of jags or something like that

Ok don't flame me yet, I just wanna put this out there to see if this might work. I'm sure there's more people here more experienced than me.

Oscar, Midas, Green Terror/Electric blue jack Dempsey, red terror, vieja argentea

Any number of each of these species. Will this work? If it won't work can you let me know why?

That tanks aounds great where did you order it from ?

I havent kept festae but read they are true to there name.

My argentea was nasty. Though it was a smaller tank than yours i couldnt keep even non cichlid tankmates with him. Everything i read about them said they meed a really big tank to be kept with others.

Look into pearsei they get big but are on the calmer side for CA

Keep in mind the growth rates of the fish like a gt would grow much slower than an oscar.

Another vieja to consider would be a synspilum or regani....every fish has there own attitude

I'm currently in the Philippines, there's this guy here who's supposedly the best at making tanks, this is my first time asking him to make one for me.

I'll keep growth rate in mind thanks.

Yeah out of all the ones I've listed I'm thinking Red terrors and Dovii's would be the "for sure" tank busters in a community of CA/SA tank.
