This is kind of a stupid question but I got an extra 200 watt stealth in the box and my 20 gallon community has a crappy came with an old kit 50 watt in it I don't know how old it is. I was wondering if it would be OK to put the stealth in there? I was worrying that the temp swings might be too big but I am not sure...
Thanks in advance guys :)

it will be fine....

set it to the temp and you will be fine.... there is no problem here actually a advantage as the heater will not work as hard to heat the tank...

I would use it, I use a spare 150W heater on my 20. It just keeps the temperature way more constant. It is usually cold in my room and no matter what my tank is always at 25C

the only issue you might have is how fast the water heats up. i put a 100w stealth on a 10g and it would take less than 60 seconds for the water to heat up 2f from the time the heater turned on till it shut off.

Ditto to everybody. Go for it!

Thanks that is exactly what I was thinking :) Just thought id double check

Thanks guys!

If anything it will save you money. Just monitor the temperature at first, if it's going higher than what you set it at, adjust accordingly. There is always a residual heat let off when the thermostat shuts down, but it dissipates faster in the stealths because of their plastic casing then in the glass heaters. :)
